| What we like about Summertime: -Quiet location -Spacious houses -Kitchen well supplied (refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishes, pots, glassware, silverware, etc.) -Washer/dryer, vacuum cleaner -Clean towels and sheets weekly -Only a few minutes to downtown Bar Harbor or Acadia National Park (easy access by local bus, car, or walking) -Proprietors are all-around great people who want their guests to enjoy their stay (any problems are taken care of quickly) These are the reasons we have been going back to Summertime for the last eight summers. | The Secret Jewel of Bar Harbor! By serendipity my family was able to stay for one idyllic week at Summertime Guest Cottages in Bar Harbor, Maine. What we discovered was a jewel in the treasure chest of a Maine experience. Summertime simply had it all. We entered our immaculate rooms to discover a living room complete with a tv, video player, videos and books on local sites as well as games. Yes, the old fashioned games like Monopoly and Scrabble that the whole family can enjoy. The full kitchen was stocked with everything needed to cook a breakfast through to a dinner of steamers and lobster. The place had enough beds that an extended family could stay and still have plenty of privacy . Bathrooms were immaculate and there was plenty of heat or air conditioning as needed. From the deck or any window one viewed lush, dew covered gardens and dense forests that scented the air with fern and pine. A short drive (or walk or bike) into town offered movies, fresh lobster dinners, home made fudge and ice cream, miniature golf, supermarkets and great shops. The best part of Bar Harbor is surely Acadia Park with its Rockefeller built Carriage Trails and the view of the Atlantic Ocean from Cadillac Mountain. Hiking, biking, swimming at Echo Lake, and even golf are there. Plenty to do or plenty to not do. One can read, paint, photograph, hike or write a book in the tranquil surroundings. Take a cruise of the harbor and see the most photographed lighthouse (do your homework for the answer), whales, seals and yachts galore. Its a place to enjoy nature in a pure New England setting that is relaxed, casual and safe. My family came home with cases of Root Beer and Birch Beer from the local bottling plant. | Terrific destination with extremely clean and cozy and welcoming environment. Our pets are so welcomed at Summertime and the owners love all animals. We experienced a spotless apartment.... spacious and equiped with anything we needed. Sam & Sonja are the best. They treat everyone as family and cannot do enough to make your stay just perfect. The surroundings are lovely....... nestled alongside Acadia National Park but very close access to downtown Bar Harbor and all the fun. This is the most comfortable, pet-loving, clean and cozy spot in Bar Harbor. We highly recommend Summertime and would return in a heartbeat. Unknown Boca Raton, FL |
| We look forward to our annual stay at Summertime Cottages - that says it all. For past several years myself, a friend of mine and our respective dogs [2 Standard Poodles and 2 Goldens have had the pleasure of quiet, comfortable weeklong stays at Summertime Cottages. We have always found 'Our' apartment to be in excellent condition, well equipped and spotless, when we arrive. Not only do Sam and Sonja 'allow' dogs, they welcome our dogs. Dog owners who read this review will know how rare an experience that is. Though we would love a water view, Summertime does put us about 5 minutes from an entrance to the park and its system of trails. | The BEST place to stay if you love your pets! This establishment has to be one of the nicest family run businesses anywhere. My wife and I were made to feel welcomed, and especially our little Yorkie was made to feel welcomed, too. He thought the inside staircase was custom made for his pleasure! It far exceeded our expectations and we will be sure to recommend Summertime to anyone we know traveling to the Bar Harbor area. Unknown Florida |
| Warm, friendly atmosphere - a perfect place to relax! I don't know where to begin. Sonja and Sam were perfect hosts for my stay back in June. They called when I was late getting there just to see if I was okay. There was a welcome sign for me when I pulled in and my cottage was perfectly charming. I came with my toy poodle and she had a welcome basket with treats waiting for her. We were both made to feel at home and wanted for nothing - everything was there for us! Bar Harbor is beautiful and Acadia National Park was right out the back door. The view from my cottage was stunning. It was so nice to wake up and see the forest while having coffee - what a treat! I hope to go back soon - to breathe that wonderful Maine air - walk along the ocean and hike in the woods- and Summertime is the perfect place for all of it. Amelia Boston, MA |
| Best place to stay in Bar Harbor! We have stayed at Summertime Cottages for quite a few years now. We travel to other spots in Maine during the year but this is our favorite place. We travel with our pets and it is pet friendly (Very Friendly!). The cottages are immaculate! The location is terrific - just a quick bike ride and you are in Acadia National Park and in a short walk you can be having lots of fun down town. There is also a free bus that stops right in front of the property (well behaved pets are allowed on the bus). The cottages have everything you need for a great Maine vacation - lobster pots, grill, lobsters at great prices, bike storage, internet access, washer & dryer, beautiful deck - the list goes on and on. If there is something you need and it is not there - the owners will make sure you get it. They are very, very accommodating. To sum it up - Summertime Cottages is our favorite place to stay and we plan on going there for years to come! Quinsey Boston, MA |
| Fabulous Time at Summertime Cottages Following are the reasons that a week (8/25 - 9/1) at Summertime Cottages made us very happy! The space: Large and spacious living area, bedrooms and outdoor deck. The place was spotless when we arrived and had plenty of storage for our clothing and food. We didn't cook lobster but all of the necessary equipment was provided and our host said he could order it for us daily, if desired. The atmosphere: our condo was quiet and sunny. Several sliding glass doors and windows combined to allow for great breezes and comfortable quarters. We didn't need it, but air conditioning is provided if desired. The large deck and pretty back yard provided for lots of relaxing time outdoors. The furniture: excellent and comfortable beds. No sagging mattresses here. The location: couldn't be better! Summertime is located on a very quiet street and is a 3 minute bike ride from Bar Harbor's Center. It's one mile away from one of the Carriage Path entrances and allowed for several bike rides. In short, Summertime provided a great spot for exploring Bar Harbor and Mt. Desert Island. And we loved hanging around the cottage -- it was a great place for reading and playing Scrabble.
